An Old Bowser

This is the local town's bowser which is often on duty in the summer delivering water to thirsty plant pots and flower borders in the streets and squares. In winter it spends most of its time in the garage but this year there is an ice rink in one of the local car parks so it's there most of the time, helping local children break elbows and twist ankles. The driver doesn't know how old it is exactly but thinks it has about 50 years of service. The make is OM which ceased production in 1968 and was absorbed by Iveco. Bowser, along with beaker, is one of my favourite words.

What a beauty! A 650 to boot. Not a mark on it. What are the rear lights like? Anything like Jeep ones? Probably too young. Stay off the ice! T.

Cindy. That's really not good enough! You could have pretended to be someone completely different with Cindyesque views.

Just about to post a comment when I see lord Ashley's surfaced - very welcome. Any how - what I am particularly pleased about is that your local council see fit to continue opperating a truck of this age, for this they should be soundly congratulated, why oh why have we lost our local RDC Karriers scampering about collecting dog pooh or cleaning road signs - such a shame.

Oh Peter, I don't know strange things have been happening to me. I've got a wet nose and need to go for some serious waxing.

Cindy do you ever get anywhere near Leicestershire?

Feeling much better now. The answer to your question peter is, no.i believe there are some very strange folk around those parts.
Anyway, where have you been? helping the police with their enquiries again?
By the way how weird is Michael Powell?

That bloody dog is bak, thought i'd sorted that.

Ron. Why do you like 'beaker' so much? Great word, sure. Nice balance: the way 'bea' and 'er' lie to either side of that flinty edged 'k'. Is it really a more mellifluous word that, say,'azimuth', a personal favourite?

And knock me down with a feather, Cindy's turned into someone else. My Lord Ashley, Earl of Sawston, will you retain the identity we have known and loved, or are you in fact not Peter Ashley at all, but an East European plasterer come amongst us with a Leica?

One of my favourite words is 'bollocks'. Cindy: I've got some reindeer de-waxer in. High Leicestershire is all right providing you don't tell anybody you've got some baler twine in your pocket.

Cindy, I've not been in police custody, oddly, but do see my blog in October called Brighton Clock.
(www.unmitigatedengland.blogspot.com). Michael Powell only became slightly strange after falling away from Emeric Pressburger, so perhaps you've been looking at his solo film Peeping Tom.Take a look at A Matter of Life and Death for both of them at the top of their powers. Blimey, a bit serious, have a lovely Christmas.
