Never trust a shepherd

They say "red sky at night...", well this was the sunset two nights ago and the next day the temperature dropped about 20 degrees and it snowed. However, the siege mentality induced by inclement weather is always a welcome guest in this household. Consumption today therefore has centred around two bottles of wine and, bizarrely, a cherry liqueur concoction in a label-free Kilner-type jar with an indistinct provenance. I do hope it's not some sort of perfumed lavatory cleaner.

Well then - simple explanation really - this view was obviously shot facing East at sunrise rather than sunset. This confusion is not uncommon at altitude. Really you ought to head home a little earlier, just before sun-up and the problem will go away.

Thanks Diplo, I have been giving it a bit of a caning lately. Must lay off the cherry-tasting paint stripper.

For what it's worth Somerfield in Uppingham have got some Polish vodka in called Graduate. Drank half a bottle last week and I must say it did feel like someone had wallpapered my colon. Good taste though.

Christmas started at Slawston Towers last night. Roaring log fire in the woodburner, bottle of Dow's Trademark Port, big slice of Hartington Dairy's Stilton, an episode of Dad's Army on the box and the Daily Telegraph Christmas Crossword. Had a little cocktail hour beforehand with a bottle each of Shepherd Neame Spitfire and a Badger Tanglefoot.
