Ronnie's got a new friend
I was lurking around the booze section of a supermarket last week looking for something different to shoplift when I chanced across this. Marsala was 'discovered' by a scouser, one John Woodhouse, in 1773 when he landed in the Sicilian port of Marsala, and after getting stuck in to the local wine he realised he had found a new sherry, that being a wine fortified with alcohol that could withstand a sea journey and still remain vaguely drinkable. He promptly bought a couple of vineyards and started exporting the stuff to Blighty. He was a bit of a Scally lad, was our Woodhouse, and soon made a name for himself by getting lagged up and running through his vineyards naked. Florio is one of the best makers and this bottle only cost €4.60. Good kit, drink it with pastries in the afternoon for tea or after dinner as a digestivo. If you see one in Waitrose, give it a tug and wait for the overwhelming urge to strip naked and leg it through the nearest allotment.

That's more like it Ron. Forget politics and stick to whatyou do best. I'm off to buy a couple of bottles now, write of the afternoon and run down Queen's Rd naked as a Jay bird.
Mmmm, I've always had a penchant for Marsala. Very good with a couple of spongy slabs of Battenberg. And talking of Waitrose, I was in there this morning and bought four Fuller's London Porters for my tea because they'd got two quid off. Exceptional stuff, makes me think I'm talking to Charles Dickens down a fish-head strewn alleyway.
Incidentally, what's happened to everyone else that used to frequent these pages? Gone up in cyber smoke by the look of it.

Mmmmm.....afternoons in Cap d'Agde, a glass or three of Mrsala and a nice Cream Horn. Of such things are memories made....
I like Tikka Marsala. Was that invented by the same man?
Ah, that's better. Alois and Camilla driving up together in their two-seater boat-tailed Hispano Suiza.
Anyway, wasn't Marsala also Ben Hur's enemy? Stephen Boyd playing opposite the late Chuck (pass me a loaded rifle)Heston?
I think it was also the name of the big black guy in Pulp Fiction too? No. Just checked. I was close. It was Marsellus Wallace. How about that for a not entry?
Marcia Wallace was the voice of Edna Krabappel in The Simpsons, for which she won an Emmy. She is therefore a STRONG and IMPORTANT woman.
