Uncle Hector's car

Some eleven years ago dear Uncle Hector drove back to his farm near Launceston in Cornwall (Cornovaglia in Italian, the only British county to have an Italian name) from a local Parish Council meeting, parked the car in the drive that leads down to the milking sheds and went inside, greeted Auntie Eileen, had a cup of tea, said he thought he'd go to bed, which he did and never got up again. Nice way to go really. Anyhoo, this is his car and it looks as if it has never been moved.

that really is perfect - despite regular washing from the 40 odd inches of rain a year the patina has started to develop and some of the more hesitant flora and fungii have started to get a grip. Such an evocative sight that my imagination has summoned up the distinctive hum that will smack the first person to open a door ........... MORE COMPOST !

That's the way my father went. Went to bed and never got up. That's the way I want to go as well. Not just yet though.

Ooh, pleasing decay. Were there tiny spores of lichen lodged in the spaces between the chrome letters of the model number? Were the window rubbers slightly perished like round a bicycle rear mudguard reflector? Was there a half-used Kleenex travel pack in the glovebox? Was there a curry under the passenger floormat? Oh. Sorry. That was in a Polo I put in a ditch.

A wise purchase from Truscotts, in Launceston I see. They appear to have survived. T
