Off the Wagon

That's The Intrepid One leaving this morning after 36 hours of virtually solid boozing. The Landy is full of Libyan rocks, sand and Italian wine.
This was one of the smarter bars.

And this was a serious Barbera that we got stuck in to much later.
Now for some rest I think. Mamma mia.

well done, well done - congratulations all round. I'm sure it wasn't all plain sailing but you stuck it out - not enough bloody commitment in the world today. If you're going to have a session do it properly, don't baulk at the first hurdle, take courage from you comrades, help each other over the traumas along the way.

Yes, well done Ron. I celebrated alongside with some decent claret and a couple of bottles of porter.
Anyway, where does the phrase 'on (or 'off' in your case) the wagon' originate?

VG: yes, it was rather a poor show but I'm not getting any younger.
Diplo: thank you for your warm praise.
Peter: wasn't it the Sally Army in NY about a hundred years ago who used to tour the streets with a horse-drawn cart asking for assorted Combos to repent of the sin of alcohol and climb aboard and Be Saved? I could do with saving.

That sounds good Ron.I expect they did it in Newton Abbot too, largely ignored.
