Italy. An interesting, infuriating place to live as a gin-raddled expat. Some notes and observations.

What's this then?
A funny fruit. Funny peculiar rather than funny ha-ha of course. Matures in November and has a very sweet gloopy orange pulp that is nice to eat but some white-ish pith that are very bitter. Very popular with birds hereabouts when there's not much else to feed on. The branches are very delicate and break easily. A special Combo prize to the first reader to give the correct name. Maybe I should change the name of this nonsense blog to Unmitigated Italy.

I expect you're hoping to cach me and my lady Sharon out with this one. We're have bets on it: she has her purse, I'm on.
There are seemingly a million persimmon trees around Vinoland that drop their leaves before they drop their fruit. They look very similar, but...I'm not sure.
It's definitely a persimmon - we have them here in Turkey too and our fruit is eaten by local chickens. Do I get the prize?

It has to go to Vinogirl I'm afraid Mr/Mrs/Ms Anonymous, as the tree is of the persimmon persuasion and I really think she was there first. Now all I have to do is think of a suitable prize. Hmm, OK, how about a wonderful bottle of Bonarda from just around the corner-ish? The only catch is, you'll have to come with Vinomaker to pick it up. About time you had a look around Piedmont I think! Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera, Gavi di Gavi, Dolcetto, Arneis......need I go on?
The Bonarda sounds fab! How about England in April?
