Italy. An interesting, infuriating place to live as a gin-raddled expat. Some notes and observations.

The Intrepid Explorer
A loosely work-related brief visit by the Intrepid Explorer resulted in a virtually non-stop 48 hour drinking binge. Dramatic amounts of wine, of course, but also a new digestivo, consumed at the behest of Bruno. The little babies lined up here are a Fernet Branca sub-brand, Menta. Fernet Branca is the Mother of all digestives and this minty version is not unpleasant at all after an Italian lunch consumed with an outside temperature nudging 95F and three (or was it four?) bottles of red wine on the table. Phew.

Funny, but I had completely forgotten that lovely little line up. So refreshing after the onslaught of raw veal, pasta and assorted local reds.
It's alright for you two, swanning about digestivo-ing. But I am going to Blaston Show this afternoon and hope to have a pint of mild in a plastic mug in the beer tent.. Smell of cut grass, sound of old Field Marshalls being started up. And the tractors.
Get anywhere near the filling-station karaoke bar?
Oh and Ron, I've just taken a closer look at your new blog profile photo. May I congratulate you on getting much nearer this time with the operations. So much so I'm thinking of proposing. Will you carry your shoes up the aisle for me?
